Student testimony

Louis, double degree student - from TU Dresden to Centrale Nantes 2021-2023

"Hi, my name is Louis and I was at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes from 2021 to 2023 for a double degree. I can only recommend this double diploma to anyone interested. On the one hand, it is a really great opportunity to obtain a diploma from a renowned Ecole Centrale, which has a very good reputation in France. On the other hand, the degree programme there is structured somewhat differently than at TU Dresden and therefore offers many new insights. The degree programme is much more international. For example, there are many double degree students at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes from different countries, such as Spain, Brazil, China, Morocco...

In addition to the engineering courses, attention is also paid to social education. There are compulsory sports and language lessons and on Tuesdays, soft skills courses are held on topics such as sustainability, management, scientific innovation and good cooperation. I really liked the fact that there were no lessons on Thursday afternoons so that students could take part in various art, music or sports clubs.

In the engineering courses, there was practical work in almost every course in addition to the lectures and exercises, which ranged from laboratory experiments and programming to insights into various engineering programmes. This practical work helped me to memorise certain content much better and I often enjoyed it. After the first year, in which all students complete the same subjects, they specialise in different options. These ranged from robotics, computer science, mechanics and biology to renewable energies, which I took. The options were taught in small groups of around 30 students. This made the lessons much more personal and you formed a close-knit group with your fellow students.

Overall, the longer study abroad made me more independent and I was able to gain unique experiences, such as sailing with the sports club on the Atlantic."
